<image:title>Programs & Events - Truth Matters: The WHY and HOW of Non-Fiction Writing - Parrish Wilson is a Writing Therapist, and experienced Facilitator who has been leading therapeutic and transformative writing workshops since 2013. With a Graduate Certificate in Creative Writing and a Master’s in Counselling & Spirituality, Parrish weaves together the power of personal storytelling and emotional healing to create workshops that are both creatively enriching and deeply supportive. Her personal writing explores the full spectrum of lived experience - mental health, motherhood, feminism, self-compassion, dating, and modern womanhood - with honesty, warmth, and courage. Parrish’s work has been published in You Are Not Alone: An Anthology of Perinatal Mental Health Stories from Conception to Post-Partum (Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative, 2021), and More Than a Zero (Women Who Inspire, 2017), while her master’s thesis, Rewriting the Trauma Narrative: The Effectiveness of Autobiographical Writing in the Treatment of PTSD and Complex Trauma (St. Paul University, Ottawa, 2022), reflects her deep commitment to the intersection of writing and healing. Her research identified five powerful ways autobiographical writing supports mental health: breaking the silence, controlling the narrative, being witnessed, connecting with others, and experiencing cathartic release.</image:title>
<image:caption>She is currently writing a book about therapeutic writing, further exploring how personal narrative can be a powerful tool for self-understanding, empowerment, and healing. Whether you’re writing for personal growth, publication, or social impact, Parrish’s workshops offer an inspiring space to strengthen your voice and connect with your purpose. <image:title>Programs & Events - Art of Writing workshop: Leaving Room for the Illustrator in Picture Book Writing - Laura Piggott is an author/illustrator who loves colour, wonder, whimsy, and magic. Her art and writing both embody a sense of humour and play. She believes that all children should see themselves in the stories that surround them. When she’s not drawing, painting, or writing, Laura spends her time knitting and sewing; playing the piano, violin, and cello; reading books and magazines; and drinking copious amounts of coffee. When the coffee runs dry (or it’s past 3:00 pm), you might find her dreaming by the fire with a quilt and a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of bubbly wine. Laura also loves to eat, cook, and bake gluten-free food and would never turn down a dinner invitation from Phil Rosenthal or Bobby Flay. Laura has an Honours BA in Trilingual Translation and a Bachelor of Education, both from the University of Ottawa. She also has a post-graduate certificate in Stylistic Editing from Queen’s University. She speaks English, Spanish, French, and Italian. Although she is smitten with travel, she is the epitome of a homebody. Laura lives with her husband, two teenage children, and menagerie of pets in Carleton Place, Ontario.</image:title>

<image:title>Programs & Events - Art of Writing workshop: Recovering Language when Words Fail Us - Peter Winfield is a veteran who retired early due to mental health injuries. He is a former army officer who served in the infantry, armour and then worked in counter terrorism signals intelligence with the Communications Security Establishment. He has multiple overseas deployments. After his last deployment he was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, and double depression. Then one day he took his soul for walk. He went to therapy and tried medication. He learned to practice mindfulness, breath work and energy work. He went back to school. He studied creative writing, art history, mindfulness, meditation, and compassion. He learned to walk the labyrinth. He returned to his lifelong passion for making art through painting and photography. At some point his soul started to smile again and the labyrinth showed him a new way to find meaning. He recently began to step out of the shadows of the life he created to speak publicly about mental health, to teach journaling and labyrinth walking for healing journeys, to write and to show his art. He has been fortunate enough to sell some of his art which is the lifelong passion that saved his life.</image:title>
<image:caption>Currently, he is completing his MFA in Creative Writing at King’s University in Nova Scotia.</image:caption>

<image:title>Programs & Events - delve - In close conversation with Rose Graceling-Moore & Hypatia Rae - Rose Graceling-Moore (Perth) started her writing career in entertainment journalism over a decade ago, as a freelance writer, editor, and eventually, content manager. However, her real love has always been in romance, and two years ago, she started work on her debut novel, Just One Summer. She writes romance in both contemporary and magical realism, with a love of realistic relationships blossoming in pleasantly un-realistic situations, with magical pies, magical bars, and magical summers behind them. Rose loves character-driven stories, and hones her character-building skills through playing D&D, and by digging into psychology in her spare time. She is now working on her third romance novel, and pursuing traditional publishing for her first two. Rose now lives her own Hallmark-worthy life in small-town Perth, Ontario, with her partner, two cats, and probably too many plants.</image:title>

<image:title>Programs & Events - delve - In close conversation with Rose Graceling-Moore & Hypatia Rae - Hypatia Rae (Almonte) is a local/Canadian author who writes fantasy books about characters kissing. She has been regaling family and friends with dramatic tales since early childhood and loves nothing more than creating expansive worlds for her characters, then setting them free so she can document their exploits. Hypatia is known for her strong characters and compelling worldbuilding. She most often combines romance with a helping of humour. Her debut novel The Witch of Faymeria Wood, released last November on Amazon, with the follow up in April. The final book in the trilogy is due early 2025. Her newest release, Rise of the Fae King, is a prequel novella available to purchase now, or free to newsletter subscribers.</image:title>

<image:caption>When Melissa Baker Nguyen was growing up, you could always find her with a pencil and paper in hand. Melissa has always loved drawing and creating, and that led her to graduate from both Acadia University, with a degree in Studio Art, and The University of Calgary, with a degree in Education. Coming from a Studio Art background, painting was her first passion. Always a curious creative soul, she was pulled toward – and continues to master – digital art and children’s book illustration. Melissa has worked for the past 15 years creating graphics and logos for many start-ups, ministries, and non-profits. All of this design and built-up creativity have led her to finally open her own little shop. This has been a longtime dream and is now a reality. She couldn't be happier to share her work with you! Melissa works wherever she is, with whatever she has on hand, whether that is in Uganda, Vietnam, even at her Mom's in Nova Scotia, or in Perth, Ontario where she currently resides! Nowadays, you can find her generally under the strict supervision of her very quirky Havanese puppy named Nash. In her studio, you’ll find her knee-deep in paper, pencils, pens and paint, with a steaming cup of coffee not far off (fun fact, she keeps a coffee maker in her studio space!). The rest of the time, this true Canadian girl is volunteering, spending time with family and friends, or curled up in a giant sweater dreaming up new and beautiful things. <image:title>Programs & Events - delve - In close conversation with Margaret Macpherson - About Tracking the Caribou Queen: Memoir of a Settler Girlhood, Margaret says— "I wrote this book hoping white Canadian wrestling with their place in the reconciliation process might consider the nature of institutional racism and realize how none are exempt. Racism doesn't have to be overt. It exists in the structures established by a colonial system. The beginning of healing is recognising culpability and taking responsibility for same. My story is only my story, no one else's, but my hope is that it would act as a mirror for readers so others recognize themselves in the unwitting child narrator raised within the system."</image:title>

<image:title>Programs & Events - 4-week writing circle: Playing with Form - Who is the teacher?</image:title>
<image:caption>Jessie Carson is the Creative Director of ARW and has been a professional writer for over a decade. Her creative non-fiction has been published in Ars Medica, The Autoethnographer, Blank Spaces Magazine as well as other print and online journals. She has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, long-listed for CBC Canada Writes, short-listed for Prism International’s Non-Fiction Competition, among other almost-wins for her writing. Her stories are often an inquiry into the themes of motherhood, loss, and how stories live in the body and through generations. Recently, she has been intrigued with fractured non-linear stories as this seems to be the only way some stories can be told.</image:caption>
